Your Guide For The Basics About Alkaline Water

A lot has been written about alkaline diet and its benefits. Just like the diet, many people also have claimed very good things about alkaline water. So, what's the hoopla all about? In this post, let's talk a bit about the topic and some of the essential aspects that may come handy, especially if you are thinking of considering this as a lifestyle choice.

What's Alkaline Water?

Any substance is either acidic or alkaline, and it's measured on the pH scale. Anything that's below 5 on the pH scale would have considered acidic, and something that has a pH balance of 9 or more would have considered highly alkaline. The basic concept is to focus on neutralizing acid in the body and maintain a pH balance, which can offer relief and can keep many health problems at bay. Naturally, you can find natural high pH water around the springs, mainly in areas where the water passes through the rocks and wheaters the minerals. Pretty obviously, most people will not have access to such sources, and therefore, you will find many brands that sell high quality alkaline water in packaged bottles.

What are the Benefits?

Normal tap water has a pH balance of 5 to 7, depending on the source, while most of the chemically processed water with better pH has a level between 8 and 9.5. The benefits with high pH water are many, especially with regards to what is being claimed. First and foremost, it is known to be good for people who are fighting diabetes or obesity, because it is believed to regulate the blood sugar levels and metabolism rate. So, if you have been trying to lose weight, this can be your go-to choice. With added electrolytes, alkaline beverages also work for offering natural energy to the body, without any sugar, and there's also a positive impact on all bodily functions. It is also claimed that alkaline water also works for better hydration rate and offers a great way to detox the body.

Is This For Everyone?

There are many people who have claimed very good things with the alkaline way of living, and the list also includes many celebs. To be honest, dedicated and detailed research in the field is very limited, but there is no denying that the benefits have been experienced by many. It is also worthy to add that this is a concept that comes sans any side effects, so if you are just thinking of trying the entire thingy, there is no reason to step back. There are some really cool brands available out there, and many of the packaged water products have added minerals, to offer that extra benefit you would expect with water with better pH.

All in all, there is no way that the concept can be totally done away with. It's probably a matter of time that more things come out with research, but till then, this can be a good way to change your regular tap water for something really better!

Air Filters: Their Pros And Cons

Air filters remove dust particles, micro-organisms and dirt from air. The filters have different applications where they are used in commercial, medical and industrial sectors. There are many types of filters in the market with the most common being:

HEPA is an acronym for High Efficiency Particulate Air. The technology was developed during the Second World War where it was used in removing radioactive dust from air. In modern times, the filters are used in households where they have the ability of removing particles that are as small as 0.1 microns.

Particles that the filters are able to catch and remove include: dust mites, mold spores, dust, bacteria, and pollen.

It's good to note that HEPA filters do not remove chemical fumes, odors, viruses, and cigarette smoke. To catch and remove these particles, it's recommended that you buy a HEPA filter with activated carbon.

You should regularly replace these filters as the captured micro-organisms can reproduce that becoming a health hazard.

Ionic air filters

Also known as ionizers, these units rely on voltage in order to charge air molecules. They produce negatively charged ions (anions) which attract dust particles in the air just like static electricity.

When particles get into contact with anions, they de-ionize and are removed from the air stream.

The cool thing with them is that they remove particles that are as small as 0.01 microns. They are also able to sterilize bacteria, smoke, viruses and other toxic fumes. They are loved by many people as they function without causing any noise.

While the units remove the particles from air, the removed particles are not removed from the room-they land on the floor, furniture and walls so you have to go back and clean the floor and walls.

Studies have shown that the units produce ozone as a by-product. This puts your lungs at risk when you directly inhale ozone.

Activated carbon filters

They are activated using oxygen which opens carbon pores making the filters highly absorbent. As air passes through the filters, the activated carbon absorbs the gasses and odors thus neutralizing them. The filters are able to remove odors, chemicals, smoke, and air gases.

Unlike ionizers, these filters do not release contaminants back into the air. The main flaw with them is that they do not remove micro-organisms, dust and other allergens.

These are the many air filters in the market. As you have seen, each filter has its strengths and weaknesses. You should analyze the filters and go for the right ones that are ideal for you.

3 Major Pollution Problems

Pollution refers to the process of making land, water and air dirty and makes it not safe and suitable to use. With the increase in world population the pollution is increasing day by day at an alarming pace. Pollution can mainly be divided into three types: air pollution, water pollution, and soil pollution. We are going to discuss them with the problems associated with them.

Air pollution air is composed primarily of Carbon dioxide, Nitrogen, and Oxygen. About 99% of the air is made of nitrogen, oxygen and inert gases. Air pollution occurs when the composition of the air is disturbed by adding different things to it which not normally there. Common type of them is that particle which happens as a result of burning the fuel and those particles goes up in the air causing air pollution.

Another common type of air pollution is because of dangerous gases such as carbon monoxide, CFC (chloral flora carbon), Sulfur dioxide, Nitrogen oxide and other chemical vapors.

CFC which is usually present in the compressor of the refrigerator is mainly responsible for the depletion of ozone layer. Ozone layer is made of O 3 and whenever the CFC goes up a reaction takes place between O 3 and CFC which break the layer of O 3 causing its depletion. Now this has a very dangerous effect on humans it causes skin diseases and many other such problems, because harmful rays from sun directly strike the human body. A recent study has shown that about 2 million people died each year because of air pollution. This amount is very alarming.

Soil pollution or land pollution is referring to the condition when garbage's and industrial wastes are thrown without proper recycling. According to ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY American producers about 250 tons of garbage and only 34% of which is recycled and the remaining are left for landfill. Especially in the developing countries where there is no proper system for disposal of wastes it really causes life threatening diseases eg measles and diarrhea. Leaving garbage on the land are very helpful in the spread of bacteria, virus, and fungi causing many diseases. Garbage must be handled properly by recycling them in order to protect the land from getting polluted.

Water pollution occurs when different materials from different sources are added or entered into water such as different chemicals, sewage, certain metals like lead and mercury; fertilizers from agriculture runoff and are the main contributing factors of water pollution. Water pollution is a worldwide problem. According to the United Nations, 783 million people do not have access to clean water, and around 2.5 billion people do not have proper sanitation. This amount of pollution severely effects marine life. Water is very necessary for life. Life can not exist without water. The human body consists of 70% water. Knowing this important information we realize water must not be polluted because polluted water causes a lot of diseases, such as diarrhea, constipation. Polluted water will not just cause human diseases, but it also makes life difficult for marine life.

Do I Require a Water Softener and Will It Take Some Important Minerals Away?

Water hardness is associated with almost all kinds of supply due to a large number of reasons including the surrounding soil, pipe material and more.

Technically, water is considered to be hard if it contains more than acceptable levels of calcium, magnesium, carbonate, etc.

How does hard water affect you or your home?

  • The hardness of water makes it less likely to produce leather when used with soaps or detergents. This will affect all kinds of washing and cleaning applications. If your supply distributes hard water, then it's quite possible that you'll notice that your clothes do not come out as clean as they should from the washing machine. Your dishes will also show signs of residue. This problem will reflect across almost everything you clean or wash with water
  • Another thing that hard water causes is skin and hair problems. It will not allow a thorough shampooing of skin or hair.
  • Hard water is also quite hostile for your appliances. It can create unwanted rubbles or build-ups in your water heater, coffee maker and can also go to the extent of blocking your pipes.

With the help of a water softener , you can fix the above problems very smoothly. A water softener removes excess minerals including magnesium and calcium and additives softened water for all cleaning and washing applications.

Let's understand how a water softener goes about its job. A standard softener works on the ion exchange technique. It causes an exchange of calcium & magnesium ions with sodium chloride.

A typical softener arrangement will have a couple of tanks; one containing beads called resin tank and the other containing salts called the brine tank. The raw water goes through the resin tank in which the mineral ions bond with the negatively charged beads. The beads then absorb the minerals and release sodium. This way, the water sheds calcium and magnesium and attains a softer form.

The purpose of the brine tank is to regenerate the functionality of the system because with the passage of softening cycles, the beads lose their effectiveness. This happens as magnesium and calcium ever consume all the sodium in the tank. The brine tank re-activates the softening process by supplying the required amount of sodium.

Now, if your water will take in more sodium, you might be curious if that will be safe for consumption. Well, you do not have to worry at all because all softeners are designed to keep the sodium level very very low.

You might also be concerned if removing minerals from your water deprive you of some essential nutrients. The answer to that is an absolute “no”, because the minerals found in water supply are not in a digestible form.

As per medical experts, the right source for consuming magnesium and calcium are foods that are rich in these minerals. Their form found in water is highly inorganic and tough to digest.

Drink Water From Copper Utensils for Healthy Living

Clean and safe water free of microbial presence is a concern worldwide. Especially in developing countries getting clean drinking water is still a major problem. Science has provided some purifying methods, but most of them are too expensive and depend on electricity which is scarcely found in villages in developing and under-developed nations. Vibrio Cholerae is one of the most common microbial present in water. This pathogen causes diarrhoea and is the reason for mortality in children in developing nations. A recent research has proved that water stored in copper vessels helps to get rid of micro-organisms which are not healthy. This problem of getting pure drinking water can be solved with Ayurveda. Ayurveda recommends drinking water kept in a copper vessel for one-third of a day ie 8 hours. This is known as Tamara jal (Copper charged water).

The Tamara Jal is formed by minute amounts of copper dissolving in the water, so lending positive properties. The pH of the water is slowly increased which results in the environment being unsuitable for pathogen growth. Also, the water can be stored for a long period of time without it getting stale. Drinking this water can be very beneficial for a person's health. Here are some benefits of drinking this Tamara Jal.

1) Helps to improve the performance of digestive system – Acidity and gas are common ailments in this age of pollution. Here is where the water kept in copper vessel helps. It helps to start peristalsis of stomach helping the food to get digested better. The other benefits to the stomach are copper's ability to kill germs and reduce inflammation. This acts as a remedy for stomach ulcers and infections along with nausea. As per the Ayurvedic texts, one should drink one liter of copper-charged water early morning on empty stomach for detoxification of stomach.

2) Helps in weight Loss – Simply drinking water stored overnight in copper utensils can help reduce weight. This not only helps improve digestion but breaks down fat so helping to get rid of unnecessary fat, making the body leaner and healthier. It also aids in the elimination of other toxic substances in the body, thus helping the kidneys and liver to perform better.

3) Keeps us Young – Copper has the unique property of reducing free radicals which are responsible for ageing. The anti-oxidants in the metal help reduce the free radicals and also help in regeneration of new skin cells. So copper is a beauty product as well.

4) Strengthens the immune system – Better digestion and detoxification aid the body immune system making it stronger. This is an indirect benefit of drinking water kept in copper vessels. It also has the anti-inflammatory property which helps to heal wounds and cuts quicker.

5) Regulates Blood Pressure and Cholesterol – Copper removals plaque from blood vessels helping the blood to flow easily and promises blockages. The natural property of breaking fat cells is the reason behind this happening. Better and smooth blood flow also helps to control blood pressure.

There are many other benefits of copper like it being anti-cancer or regulating the thyroid gland. These things have not yet been proved clinically but there is no denying the fact that water kept in a vessel made of copper is beneficial for health.

How to Remove Heavy Metals From Water

There has been a lot of concern lately about water contaminated with lead. Since the disaster in Flint, Michigan occurred, where its citizens were exposed to lead in their drinking water, a number of alarming reports have been published about high levels of lead in drinking water through the United States. There are a number of other heavy metals that can be just as devastating as lead. These metals are: aluminum, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, mercury, selenium, and silver. In high concentrations, essential metals like cobalt, copper, manganese and zinc are also undesirable. While these metals have not gotten near as much publicity, they do pose a serious health threat.

The sources of these metals vary. They can come from the treatment plant in your community. Metals can also be dissolved from the storage tanks, pumps and piping leading to your home. Your own plumbing can be a source of heavy metal contamination. Often, water heaters have what are known as sacrificial aluminum rods designed to corrode instead of the water heater tank. That is why you should never use water from a hot water tank to drink or cook with.

How can you remove the heavy metals in your water?

First, if you are connected to a public water supply, request the most recent Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) from you water supplier. This will give you a snapshot of the water coming from the treatment plant. Knowing the quality of the water leaving the plant is only part of the picture. There is still the entire distribution system before it reaches your home. Then, you have your own plumbing system to evaluate.

Unfortunately, the test kit to measure heavy metals is approximately as expensive as getting a device to remove them. The benefits of getting a filter capable of removing heavy metals is they will remove so much more. Often these devices are a multi-stage system that will filter out heavy metals along with chlorine, fluoride, bacteria and viruses. Plus, they will remove repulsive tastes and odors.

You can get a system for the whole house or you can go with a point of use device for just drinking and cooking. A whole house system will connect to the main water line coming into the home. They are fairly easy to install and some companies provide installation kits. Point of use devices will connect right on the countertop or under the sink.

One of the benefits of a home water filtration unit is you will enjoy the taste of the water coming out of the tap. You will end up drinking more water instead of flavored drinks to quench your thirst, which will have a positive effect on your health and well-being.

The Goodness of Alkaline Water at a Glance

There are all kinds of diets, and each one promises to be different and change our bodies forever. However, the alkaline diet concept does not make any kind of absurd claims. Instead, the diet says that eating foods and beverages that are alkaline in nature will help the body in keeping diseases at bay. It is more of a healthy approach towards food, which is yet to be completely studied. Yet, users around the world have claimed to be great things. In this post, we will try to understand the need for alkaline water and how the concept emerged from the diet.

Why Alkaline Water?

The diet basically cuts down many of the so-called good foods we all like, including meat and dairy. Instead you will be focused on eating fresh foods, fruits and veggies all the time. No wonder, some people find it hard to deal with the overall changes in diet. A better option is to go for water that's alkaline. Whether a substance is acidic or alkaline is determined by way it measures on the pH scale. Water, which rates over 7 on the pH scale, is considered to be alkaline. So, when you can not follow the diet, following the water concept can be a good way to start.

Pure Water – What Is The Best Way To Ensure That Your Home Gets It?

When it comes to drinking water for our home, our preference is very simple. We need nothing, but the purest possible form. Reverse Osmosis is a technology which has been making this choice plausible for many homes. What makes it the most reliable option? Well, it starts with the fact that it eliminates up to 99% of impurities that are generally associated with drinking water. As per multiple researches and laboratory tests, Reverse Osmosis rids water of a wide variety of bacteria, chemicals and particles.

How does it work?

Well, if it is claimed to remove up to 99.9% of impurities, then there must be a solid technology backing it. Undoubtedly, RO has become a very popular choice for home use in the last years, but it is not entirely new.

The water purification phenomenon was discovered in the laboratory long time back. In fact, it is used by large scale water treatment plants, recycling units along home water purification.

To tell you how it works in simple words; it uses a membrane through which tap water is pushed and that membrane separates contaminants and only lets water to pass through. It works on the phenomenon that converges a high-concentration solution turns into a lower concentration solution (minus the unwanted particles and impurities) by applying due amount of pressure.

The technique behind this process remains pretty much the same but what has evolved drastically is the quality of membrane material used to filter the water. With the advent, water purification systems have become so powerful that they can used to convert even waste water into potable water.

This potential is very critical for the environment as it will help in resolving water paucity related problems on a global level.

The effectiveness of this system depends on a variety of factors such as the tap pressure, quality and temperature of water but more importantly the quality of membrane and filters.

Why is it so widely used for home water purification?

• RO is preferred by many because of its proven ability to kill up to 99.9% off a wide range of contaminants

• Reverse Osmosis is considered to be the best option for home use also because of the cost-effectiveness that it offers especially for moderate needs

• Beside impurities, it is great at abolishing all the unwanted taste and odors from the water very effectively

• Offers plenty of convenience for your home with its easy operation

• Very easy to maintain

• Consumes very little energy

• Alongside the advantages, the largest one is its tried-and-tested efficiency in purifying water for average needs

The water purification system is not a complex arrangement but picking one for your home needs careful clarification. There are several components which decide the purity, durability, daily convenience to suit your unique needs appropriately. Here are the things to keep in mind while choosing an RO purifier for home:

• Tap water quality: The analysis of your tap water is very important as it can tell you what kind of membrane will work best for your requirement

• Daily Need: This will help you establish the required capacity of your storage tank

• Filter Quality: Be very particular in ensuring that your system contains all the necessary filters which are good to last you long enough

• Certification: The National Sanitation Foundation certifies devices on their ability to eliminate a particular kind of contaminant. Make sure you match your product with the NSF / ANSI standard that is good enough to kill the impurity identified in your tap water.

Current Environmental Issues

Environmental issues are harmful or bad effects of human activity on biophysical environment. Environmental issues arise mainly through voluntary actions of humans. We are going to discuss some of the human actions which are causing issues to the environment. These include: Industrialization, Hydrology, Nutrient Pollution, Overgrazing, and Overpopulation.

The Industrial revolution begin in Britain and spread to the rest of countries. It has a great impact on human Society. It has changed the overall dynamics of human species. I has also a great impact on the environment, with the increase in Industries it boosting air pollution which include Carbon dioxide, which is the main agent responsible for the depletion of ozone layer (O3). With the depletion of ozone layer it allows Harmful rays to hit surface of earth. These rays cause a lot of skin problems

Hydrology is the scientific study of the distribution, movement, quality of water on the planet. Scientists have found out that due to use of different pesticides and chemical causes damages to the overall quality of water because of which human health is at risk because 70% of our body is composed of water. Blood contain 90% of water. Other hydrological hazards Includes flood, Drought, Coastal erosion etc.

Overpopulation has been a growing concern for the world. It is creating a lot of problems for the human species, and many of the Environmental issues can be linked with overpopulation such as loss of fresh water, lower life expectancy in fast growing countries or should I say third world countries India, Pakistan, Bangladesh . Depletion of natural resources means few resources are chased by many people which will cause competition among humans and extremely will increase crimes.

Overgrazing is herb ivory (animal consumption of plants) which extract the unsustainable yield of floral biomass from an ecosystem. Overgrazing occurs when plants are exposed to grazing for a longer period of time. It causes environmental problems such as soil erosion, land degradation and loss of useful species. Soil gets eroded when the cover of vegetation almost gets removed from the land and exposed to the strong wind, rainfall.

Nutrient Pollution

Nutrient pollution is the process where too many nutrients are added to water mainly phosphorus, and nitrogen as a fertilizer. This is then responsible for excessive growth of Algae. The harmful effect of nutrient pollution includes Acid rain, Air pollution, and direct exposure to algae.

Acid rain: Acid rain is caused by nutrient pollution in the air. Acid rain is very dangerous and when it happens it destroys lakes, streams, Forest, Grassland.

Direct exposure to algae: Harmful algae blooms in water produces toxins which kill fish and many more aquatic animals. It is not only their toxins that affect aquatic life. Even if they do not produce toxins they can harm aquatic animals by blocking sunlight from them.

In order to preserve the natural beauty of our environment we must refrain from those activities which causes environmental issues. It is important to become actively involved in helping to enhance our environment with everyday solutions to our daily activities. Make changes and let your friends, family, and neighbors know what is important and how they can help in making these changes. With everyone working together we can create a healthy and cleaner environment for yourself and others.

The Human Tragedy and What Awaits Us

News reports from several countries on various continents show famine is growing. In some South American cities people are lining up for hand-outs as crops fail, rain does not arrive, and the hydro-electricity supplies cease. On the Indian sub-continent there is a similar story where people are desperate for food and in Africa people are also starving to death. There is a price for changing the balance of trees and removing essential rain-forests – but that's not the only problem.

In countries where major food bowls exist, such as Australia, prolonged daught in many parts is slowing production of food and driving prices up. The rush by countries like China to buy productive farm land in this and other countries is a sign of things to come.

During the mid-1980's the Spirit wave me visions on a continuous scale that showed this time. Not only famine but huge fires, floods, and other catastrophes that made me cry out in pain as they played out. Disease; wars; climate change; global warming; and various other disasters are just the tip of the iceberg as people rush to survive. Food shortage is one thing but when water dries up there is nothing left.

The question is how do we escape what is coming, and how do we put right what is already here? The short answers to these questions is we can not do either. This is our only home and the desperation is not man-made but a deliverance from God. If it was not in the plan then it would not have been possible for me to see it in visions of the future.

My reincarnation happened with power and a link to the Spirit of the Universe. It is the only God and its intention was always to grow a group of spiritual people who are right now shining with the light of knowledge. They are gathering together under banners of New Age, Pentecostal, and so on. Their appearance has been with great skepticism by those without such a link.

As part of the last day of prophecies the Internet is God's Mountain where all knowledge and truth is found (Micah 4: 1). Religious domination of countries who are now feeling the great tragedy that awaits all who are not of God is the main problem. But even they are acting under the supervision and command of the Great Spirit. This is the time of the harvest and the end of things as we know them.

How to Remove Hardness From Water

Are you frustrated by hard water stains?

Do you get irritated when your faucet screens and shower heads plug up with scale?

Do get angry when you have to replace your appliances frequently because of hard water scaling?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, you need to know you are not alone. Many people are struggling with the same issue as you and want to know: How to remove hardness from water.

Water hardness is caused by high concentrations of calcium and magnesium and to a lesser iron and manganese. In simple terms, water hardness is measured as the soap consuming capacity of the water. Softer water will consume less soap to do the same job of cleaning. Hard water will require more soap and even then will not create as rich a lather as you will find with soft water.

The ability to consume soap is not the only aspect of water hardness to be considered. Scale forming on your faucets and shower heads can be a source of frustration and inconvenience. In the case of shower heads clogging, if the water pressure is high enough it can create a painful experience when the water comes out of a tiny hole at high pressure. You have to clean these devices on a regular basis, sometimes monthly, in order to be able to use them.

Washing machines, dishwashers, icemakers in refrigerators, irons and steamers all have a shorter life when the water hardness is too high. With care and frequent maintenance you can prolong their use, they will still need to be replaced prematurely.

Finally, the hard water stains and buildup in bathtubs, sinks and toilets can be unsightly and even embarrassing. Using mild pains like vinegar can clean up most of these stains. Sometimes a much stronger acid is needed. The fumes from those cleaning products can range from unpleasant to dangerous.

There are two kinds of water softeners on the market.

The most common is a salt-based water softener. This type of softener actually removes the minerals that cause hardness and replace them with sodium. They give the water a slick feeling and you will notice your soap producing more lather. Since the minerals have been removed your skin will not feel dry and your laundry will be brighter. You will also notice you do not have scale and soap scum buildup.

Because a salt-based softener uses salt to soften the water, you will need to regenerate the softener periodically. This is an automatic process, but you will be required to add salt to your softener as needed.

Two things to consider when getting a salt-based system. First, just know there will be an ungoing expense for salt as long as you are using it. Second, you will be adding sodium to your water. If the hardness of your water is 15 grains per gallon you would consume about 30 mg of sodium per 8 ounce glass of water.

There are also salt-free water “softeners”

These units do not remove hardness-causing minerals, they convert them to crystals, but the minerals remain in the water. These crystals will not attach to surfaces to form a scale. Note: Since they do not actually remove the minerals they are really water conditioners. You still get the advantage of reduced scale without adding any salt. In fact, salt-free water conditioners are basically maintenance free and while some can go for 3 to 5 years without replacing the media others never need to have it replaced.

One other important point to make about water softeners is they only deal with the hardness in the water. They do not remove any contaminants of any kind. If you are wanting to remove hardness and chlorine, fluoride etc. you will need some sort of combination if treatment devices.

Why Do You Need High Quality Alkaline Water?

If you check the internet for diet plans, you will be spoiled for choices. The alkaline diet is a part of the list, with the difference that the benefits have not been countered as with many other diets.

Let's first start understand what the diet is all about, because that's where the concept of alkaline water and beverages initiated in the first place.

What's The Alkaline Diet?

The alkaline diet, also known as the acid ash diet, basically propagates the consumption of alkaline foods and beverages. The alkaline or acidic nature of any substance is determined by on the pH scale. Anything with a pH level of 8 or more is considered to be alkaline.

Eating foods and drinking beverages that have a high pH level can help in keeping many diseases at bay, and the diet focuses on eating the right foods. While this is not a new concept, detailed research is still left in the field. However, the available information does not really talk negatively about the diet.

Why Alkaline Water?

Under this diet, you will need to quit dairy, meat and many other things, while focusing on consumption of fresh fruits and veggies. If you are someone who likes to live the fast forward life, following the diet can be a problem.

This is where you can replace regular drinking water with high quality alkaline water and get the benefit of the concept. There are many claims associated with high pH water, including better hydration rate, regulation of metabolism and blood sugar levels and acid reflux. For these reasons, many people with obesity and diabetes are following the concept, and a large number of them have claimed to have gained many advantages.

What Else To Know?

There is nothing on the negative side of drinking high pH water, but it is best to be realistic about the advantages. It is unlawful that you will see changes in your body within a few days, because it takes time to impact the metabolism and other body processes. Also, naturally, alkaline water is found around streams, so most people can not have access to the same. Processed and artificially manufactured water is the best alternative by all means, but if you are looking for options, make sure that you choose a brand that offers the best pH level. There are some renown brands that offer a pH balance of 9 or more, and those are the ones that you need.

Before you start with the alkaline diet, it is best to talk to your doctor, especially if you intend to make any kind of changes to your diet. People, who have serious ailments, should also consider taking help of their general physician to know of any possible side effects. Overall, the concept of alkaline water and diet can be the right choice for most people, and unless you have any kind of concern, there are not any reasons to worry. There are also many other resources on the concept, so make sure that read more as needed.

How to Get Rid of Tastes and Odors From Drinking Water

Does it irritate you that drinking water stinks?

Do you get angry that you can not get a good tasting drink of water from your own faucet?

Are you frustrated when you take a shower or a bath and the water smells so bad you do not feel clean?

You're not alone. In fact, a lot of people have a problem with the taste and odors in their drinking water.

I've worked for three different water plants and only one did not have a problem with taste and odors (although it does now).

The reason for bad tastes and odors in drinking water varies. For water plants that get their water from lakes, streams, rivers etc cause two big causes are rejected vegetation and algae. Industrial wastes and agricultural runoff can also produce taste and odor.

For plants that get their water from wells the issue is usually due to dissolved minerals and gasses. For instance, iron and zinc can give an objectionable taste and hydrogen sulfide can produce a rotten egg smell.

Long story made short … near all water plants will have a problem with taste and odor at some time. The real question is, what can you do about it?

Great question … I'm glad you asked.

There are a number of solutions that can provide great tasting odor free water. Some work better than others. And some are more expensive than others. I will give you a breakdown of some of the devices you can get starting from least expensive to most expensive.

Note: I am omitting bottled water as it is the most expensive solution in the long run.

With ANY water filter designed for removing taste and odor it must have activated carbon in the filter.

Filtered Water Pitcher : These are relatively inexpensive and they can come as powered filters and standard filters. Powered filters will deliver water faster than non-powered ones.

Point of Use Filters : These filters can fit on either the end of the faucet or under the sink. These can be less expensive that a filtered water pitcher, but they can also be much more expensive. Point of use filters can also remove other toxins in the water depending on the type of filter you get.

You can also get a point of use filter for your showerhead.

Whole house filters: While point of use filters can be less expensive in the beginning, you could end up spending a lot of money on individual filters and having to deal with changing the filters. If you do not want to bother with all of that, you can get a whole house filter device. These connect to the main water line coming into the home.

Reverse Osmosis: These are more expensive devices that provide almost pure water. A reverse osmosis device will strip out most of the toxins. Reverse osmosis units come as point of use up to whole house and beyond.

Distillers: A distillation unit will also provide almost pure water. They generate pure water in batches. You can get them in capacities of one gallon up to 12 gallons. Of course, the greater the capacity the more expensive the units will be.

Essential Considerations When Buying Air Purifiers

Air purifiers are growing in popularity, as pollution levels continue to rise around the world. There are a number of important factors you need to take into consideration when buying an air purifier to make sure you get the air quality that you expect and deserve.

The first thing to look at with any air purifier you are thinking of buying is the CADR or clean air delivery rate. The CADR will decide the size of the space that the air purifier can be used in conjunction with the speed in which the device removes toxins from the air, providing you with clean air at all times. As a rule of thumb, you will want to choose one for each room, including the air you breathe is always clean and pure.

Next you will want to ensure that it comes with a HEPA filter. You have probably heard of these filters in the past and they are usually installed in vacuum cleaners to remove dust and other toxins. The HEPA filter is very effective in removing airborne toxins and traps these before pushing the clean air out for you to breathe. The great thing with this is that you know every breath you take is pure, it's clean and it's fresh.

A new feature recently introduced is wherever the air purifier is asthma and allergy friendly. Anyone with asthma, COPD or serious allergies will want to know that the device they are buying will make sure that all airborne toxins are removed to cut the risk of them having an allergy or asthma attack. For parents placing one of these in their children's bedrooms when the child has asthma, can help improve breathing during sleep, reducing the risk of an attack.

The questions you are going to want to ask yourself when buying one of these devices is why you need it. Do all your friends have one and you think it's cool or do you have a distinct need, such as a family member with asthma or you live close to a busy road and you have trucks and cars going past all day which is having a negative impact on your air quality. Maybe you live in a older home which tends to get dusty very fast and you want to ensure the filter always catches the dust so the air you breathe is of the best quality always.

Look at the different sizes to find which one is going to give you the best air quality based on room size. If you are looking for a purifier to use in a large open plan space, then you will need one which can manage a high volume compared to if you only intend using it in the bedroom.

Focus on the various features provided by the purifier to see which one is going to meet your particular needs. Does it offer digital controls, which can be useful for those with mobility issues? Maybe it provides you with easy to carry handles or is on wheels, so you can move it with ease from one room to the next without the entire family having to get involved to help you carry.

Ensure you take some time to identify the best place to put your new air purifier to ensure the best results and look at the maintenance it will need to have it working at best always moving forward.

Copper in the Human Body

For good health and vitality, the human body needs several key nutrients that work together, like the links of a chain. If one of the links is broken, the chain is ineffective since the saying: “A chain is as strong as its weakest link.” The nutrients that form the “chain of life” are carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, enzymes, lipids and sterols and minerals. All of the six must be present in adequate quantities for life to thrive.

Minerals, the group that copper belongs to, are critical to every chemical reaction that occurs in the body. Whether it's energy production, tissue manufacture, protein synthesis, water balance or cellular growth and reproduction, at least one mineral is required.

Copper is one of the few metallic elements that the human body needs for optimal metabolic performance. It's found through the body where it helps in the critical role of manufacturing red blood cells and keeping nerve cells and the immune system healthy. Perhaps the importance of copper in human life is heightened by the fact that it's present from the moment of conception, helping in the formation and development of an infant's heart, blood vessels and nervous system among others.

It goes further by supporting the absorption of iron and promoting the formation of collagen. Copper also has antioxidant properties that fight free radical activity that accelerate aging by damaging body cells. Suffice it to say that copper has immense benefits in the human body, some of which are just being discovered.

In the body copper is primarily stored in the muscles and bones. Scientific studies indicate there's approximately 1.4 to 2.1 milligrams of copper per kilogram of body weight. From the foregoing, you can see that your body needs copper in small quantities. Although copper deficiency is rare, it usually manifests in several ways, including low white blood cell count, osteoporosis, anemia, low body temperature, thyroid problems, irregular heartbeat and brittle bones. There's also scientific research that points to copper-deficiency as one of the factors that can expose you to the risk of coronary heart disease.

As with most things, moderation in copper intake is important. Even with its critical role in ensuring good health, consuming too much of this mineral can cause you unpleasant side effects like stomach pain, diarrhea, headache, nausea, dizziness and vomiting. When it's ingested in toxic quantities, copper can be fatal. Thankfully, the body has its mechanism of rejecting high quantities of copper that may be consumed inadvertently at once.

The recommended daily allowance of copper for adults is 900 micrograms while expectant and lactating women usually require higher doses of 1000 and 1300 micrograms daily respectively. Consumption of high amounts of zinc can help remove excess copper from the body.

Because the human body can not synthesize copper, this mineral must be obtained exclusively from diet in trace amounts. You'll get dietary copper from a wide variety of foods, which include dark green leafy vegetables such as kale and spinach; seafood such as oysters, squid and lobster; dried legumes such as kidney beans and soy and nuts such as walnuts, hazelnuts and cashew-nuts.

Other food sources of copper include organ-meat such as liver, avocado, chocolate, dried peaches, figs and raisins. Drinking water supplied through copper pipes also delivers some small quantities of copper, even though most people do not anything about it. Such an abundance of dietary sources of copper might suggest that there's no need for supplementation. But a recent research has established an emerging trend that should get people to sit up and listen. According to a recent survey, only 25% of Americans are consuming a daily amount of copper that the US Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences considers to be adequate. Where has all the copper gone?

The United States Department of Agriculture established a long while ago that important minerals are gradually getting depleted from the soil, over time. This means that even though people may be consuming copper-rich food, they are getting fewer amounts of copper and other minerals with the passage of time. The suggestion that our diet is falling short of the required quantities is instructive. In the long run, supplementation may not be a far-fetched idea after all.
